About OSAAC

The Organization of South Asian Art and Culture (OSAAC) is a leading non-profit organization established in 2010, committed to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the rich and diverse heritage of South Asia. Based in Toronto, OSAAC has grown into a trusted cultural platform that connects communities, supports local talent, and showcases South Asian traditions on a large public stage.

Over the years, OSAAC has become an integral part of Toronto’s multicultural landscape by organizing large-scale festivals, cultural programs, and community-driven initiatives. The organization is known for creating vibrant, inclusive spaces where people from all backgrounds can experience the beauty of South Asian art, music, dance, food, and traditions.

At the heart of OSAAC’s work is its flagship annual event, the Toronto Boishakhi Mela, a grand celebration of the Bengali New Year. This event attracts thousands of attendees every year and features live performances, traditional crafts, cultural exhibitions, and a wide variety of food experiences. As the event has grown in popularity, it has been hosted at major locations such as Dentonia Park and Taylor Creek Park, reflecting its increasing scale and community impact.

OSAAC is deeply dedicated to empowering youth and nurturing emerging talent. The organization regularly hosts youth-focused programs, including special shows and talent competitions, designed to inspire the next generation to connect with their cultural roots. Through artist advocacy and community engagement, OSAAC provides a valuable platform for local performers, creators, and entrepreneurs to gain visibility and grow within the wider community.

In addition to its flagship mela, OSAAC has successfully organized and co-hosted several major street festivals and civic events across Toronto. These include large-scale cultural celebrations on Danforth Avenue, as well as high-profile festivals held at Nathan Phillips Square. The organization has also led historic community events and continues to play an active role in city-wide cultural celebrations, including Eid festivals and seasonal programs.

To keep the community engaged throughout the year, OSAAC organizes regular events such as bi-annual Eid Bazaars, cultural fairs, and talent showcases. These events serve as important gathering spaces for families, businesses, and artists, strengthening community bonds and promoting cultural exchange.

Since its founding, OSAAC has evolved from a small community initiative into a major cultural force. With a strong vision and dedication to inclusivity, the organization continues to ensure that South Asian identity remains vibrant, visible, and celebrated across the Greater Toronto Area.
